programming

I have several programming projects including foliomaker, the automatic web photo album generator, and EDH games, where you can download EDH:TicTacToe.

Professionally, I work in Java. I am also handy in C++, SQL, Perl, PHP. I can manage a few flavors of shell scripting, including Windows batch files. I work on Linux and UNIX, including Solaris and HPUX.

UNIX is an amazing thing. It’s amazing no one has been able to make something better that can take over the world. If you use UNIX, whether you agree with me or not, you’ll probably find this book interesting: The UNIX-HATERS Handbook. It may be as harsh as it sounds, but to it’s defense it’s about what’s weird, inconsistent or just plain wrong with UNIX. And it’s a fun read.

Personally, when I program at home, I still prefer Java but I have projects in Blitz Basic and C++, too. I did a lot of web work early in my career with Perl, HTML and Javascript programming, but Java is my one true love.

It has been a while since I’ve had to turn out any significant Perl code. But, I occasionally fall back on Perl as a quick and dirty scripting tool. I like regular expressions, dollar signs, and the unless conditional. :)
